Dr. Susan Ipri Brown

As principal consultant at Empowerment Levers, Susan focuses on engineering design in leadership and strategic planning, specializing in STEM education program implementation.

Before her consulting role, Susan was the Strategic Initiatives Manager at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Office of Advanced Manufacturing. At NIST, she broadened collaborations in advanced manufacturing technology and workforce development with Manufacturing USA stakeholders.

Susan also served as the founding Associate Dean for Educational Outreach and Associate Professor of Engineering Instruction at Hope College. Her career includes roles at Northwestern University's Office of STEM Education Partnerships, North Carolina school districts, Delphi Automotive Systems, and the Michigan Legislative Service Bureau. As an ASME Federal Fellow, she worked at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

A strong advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in engineering, Susan was the 143rd president and is a Fellow of ASME, where she has held numerous leadership positions. She holds a master's degree in mechanical engineering from MIT and a bachelor's degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Princeton University.
